In parallel with my clinical practice, for several years I’ve been engaging in translation projects in the field of medicine and mental health. For the past 8 years most of my translation work has been in the fields of body liberation, body justice, weight inclusive care, fat acceptance, and mindfulness and compassion based eating, as well as chronic pain recovery contents, as there is a great need for Spanish resources, and I’m happy to put my language skills and academic and clinical experience in the service of making knowledge accessible to more people. I also love to collaborate with English speaking clinicians who serve Spanish speakers and want to make handouts and other resources in their practice available in both languages.
If you are someone who creates English content (books, blogs, handouts, presentations, intake & consent forms, etc.) and would like to make it available for Spanish speakers, I’ll be happy to work with you.
Why am I the right person for the job? Here are some of my relevant skills:
I am privileged to be fully bilingual - Spanish is my first language, but my English is so good you can’t tell I’m not a native speaker.
My vocabulary, spelling and grammar are outstanding, and my writing and communication skills are pretty great.
I know the relevant nuances and subtleties in language around these topics, with 23+ years of experience in medicine, 18+ years of experience in mental health and eating disorders, and 10+ years of experience in the field of mindfulness and compassion based programs, as well as weight inclusivity. I can also offer insights into translation options available to promote gender inclusivity in a binary language such as Spanish.
I have 20+ years of translating and medical editing experience (mostly English to Spanish, but also Spanish to English). My work has included patient handouts for the Mayo Clinic, intake, and consent forms for clinicians in private practice, medical education resources, marriage and family therapy texts, handouts for clinics specializing in eating disorders and other mental health conditions, scientific papers, blog posts, and online courses.
